Jamie Lewis and Joe Fraser have been crowned men’s under 16 and under 18 British Champions as the 2016 British Gymnastics Championships get underway at the Echo Arena, Liverpool.
In the under 16 event, it was Woking’s Jamie Lewis who stole the show and took the gold. Jamie had to secure his win with his final routine on the pommel horse, his strongest piece of apparatus. He had to fight hard however using all of his strength to power through his dismount but he did just enough to finish ahead of the City of Birmingham’s Donell Osbourne who had a very confident performance to take the silver and Huntingdon’s Jake Jarman who took the bronze.
The all-around competition also served as apparatus finals with the top three on each piece of apparatus being awarded medals. Champion Jamie also took the floor, pommel and rings titles, with silver medallist Donell clinching the high bar and parallel bars and the City of Glasgow’s Pavel Karnejenko taking the vault.
Jamie Lewis:  “I was sick two weeks before the comp and it set me back a lot so I am very surprised I’ve come out on top. The last two pieces were floor and pommel and I knew that I had to nail them and my floor my scores up a lot.”
